Como is an Italian city in the region of Lombardy. It is set on the shore of Lake Como and it is the capital of the province of the same name.
The city has a great number of attractions, including the lake itself, which is a glacial feature; it is a beautiful spot, surrounded by Italian Alps. In the city itself it is well worth visiting the cathedral, which was built in 1396. It has a curious facade which combines both Gothic and Renaissance elements. Other interesting monuments include El Broletto, the old town hall building; and the Tempio Voltiano, which is a monument to the scientist Alessandro Volta, built in 1927 on the shores of Lake Como.
One of the most important sites for visitors to the zone is the Sacro Monte di Ossuccio, which, together with other sites of its kind, is UNESCO World Heritage. This religious place is on the west side of the lake, in a gorgeous natural location and its chapels represent the Mysteries of the Rosary. It is an example of the magnificent natural landscape and the cultural interest that the province of Como holds for the visitor.
